A mobile app that changes the way we experience museums
China’s Capital Museum’s challenge
The Capital Museum is a treasure of Beijing culture. Its rich collections not only present the history of the capital city but also display different cultural and artistic exhibitions from different regions and ethnic groups in China as well as around the world.
The museum’s aim was to help people learn more about its abundant exhibitions, even when they couldn’t physically visit the museum. They were searching for a digital content publishing solution to provide a rich and seamless experience.
Solution: An iOS app giving full access to the museum collections content
With the Rakuten Aquafadas digital content publishing tools, the Capital Museum was able to publish its vast collections inside an app that enriched the overall museum experience. It even gave a full access to the exhibits for the users who couldn’t visit the museum themselves.
Based on the Next Gen App technology, part of the digital content publishing suite, the app was divided in three parts. The first telling the history of 12,000 classic relics with the help of 3D display. The second, introducing 20,000 books and cultural relics thanks to Rakuten Aquafadas’ digital publishing solution and the third, showing the daily exhibitions of the museum based on the dynamic display technology for pictures and texts.
Results: Increasing downloads and positive reviews from users
After the app’s launch on January 25th 2019, it was downloaded 400 times on the same day and quickly gained many positive reviews. Today, there’s only an iOS version. But the increasing downloads and the reviews are pushing for an Android version.
Users were able to learn about the different collections, comprising thousands of unique pieces and stay up to date with the latest exhibitions.
If you happen to be in China, why don’t you download the app from the App Store.
