How to set the app in Android AppFactory

  1. Open Android AppFactory.
  2. Select the template Kiosk Multi-title and click on the Create button.
  • Drag and drop the application certificate in the Certificate field.

4. Continue setting the application by filling in the tabs in the App Settings menu:

  • Main information,
  • Splashscreen,
  • Application colors,
  • Tools,
  • Menu,
  • Kiosk Layout,
  • Settings layout,
  • Reader,
  • AF Key Permission.

Set Main Information menu

After you drag and drop the application certificate, two fields in the Main information menu are filled automatically:

  • Name of the application: the name of the application given in AppFactory.
  • Application ID: unique identifier for the application, defined manually in Cloud Connect and identical for Google and Apple stores.All other fields are not mandatory, but you can custom them.
  • Version Number (public): version visible to users. Change it with every update of the application.
  • Version Number (private): version visible internally. Change it with every update of the application.

    Example 4.2. 

    If your public version is 1.0, the private version can be 1.4. When updating and publishing a new version of the application: the public version is 1.2, while the private version restarts from 1.

  • Application internal URL: Application internal URL (URL scheme): the URL scheme given automatically in Cloud Connect is contained in the application certificate. It is recommended to personalise the URL scheme of your application in this field. Make sure you keep the same for Android AppFactory.
  • Store & options: select your store, Google Play or Amazon, and activate the options you want accordingly: Maps, Push Notifications, Localization. For further details about options, read the tool tip.
  • Supported devices: set the screen of the application for different types of devices.
  • Applications icons: to change the icons for Home, Notifications with small icons, for new released issue, or large icons, for other type of notifications.

Set Splashscreen menu

In this menu you change the color and the logo for the splashscreen.

You can also enable/disable the Force login option. You activate this option to ask the users to connect to your application via an account and a password. Or you can use Suggested option: it requires to connect, but the user can skip the account creation for another time.

The pop up displays when the user tries to open your application.

Set Application colors menu

In this menu you change the colors for the Action bar, Main text color and adapt the color of the application with the colors set for the action bar.

Set Tools menu

In this menu you can currently set Google Analytics and Localytics.

For all types of analytics you set to display a pop-up at first launching of the application and give the main informations about the analytics.

  • Enable the Library view element and set the label text in the menu for this item. You can also change the Library icons.
  • Change the label text for Settings.
  • Enable the Website element and set the label text in the menu for this item.
  • Enable the Redeem element and set the label text in the menu for this item.

Set Kiosk Layout menu

In this menu you can:

  • Change the images for Default coverStore model default bannerNo internet icon, No content icon elements.
    • Set the text for Empty library element.+
    • Select the option to display for Issue title: None, Name, Subtitle, Publication date, Price, State.
    • Select the option to display for Issue subtitle: None, Name, Subtitle, Publication date, Price, State.
    • Enable the Category panel element and set the label text in the menu for this item. You will activate the Show side menu images for Categories and Activate side menu to display it in your application.
    • Activate the Search option within the content of an Issue. Customise the Search button when creating your content in InDesign Authoring or Cloud Authoring.
    • Set the Date format.

Set Settings Layout menu

In this menu you can:

  • Enable User account creation and set the explanatory texts for the benefits of having an account.
    • Set the Custom account element: set the label text for the Legal element and give the URL link of legal information.
    • Set the Contact support element: you can customize the text for Support button, Support email subject, Template Email Subject.
    • Set Analytics element by default, display analytics setting view and display a pop-up notification for analytics when launching the application.
    • Change the images for About element.

Set Reader menu

In this menu you can:

  • activate the option to use a GUI by default or import a customised GUI.
  • activate Page to fit screen option to adapt the size of the Help page to the screen.

Set Key permission menu

In this menu you can (de)activate key permission for:

  • Camera: allow or deny access to the camera for the application.
  • Audio: allow or deny access to the camera for the application.
  • InApp Purchase: allow or deny access to the InApp Purchase for the application.


If you deactivate access, you will get an error message when the application will need to use the option. You will have to activate the option and re-submit the application.

Set Firebase

In this menu the application gets access to Push notification subscriptions from Firebase projects.

Via Firebase .json file, the application connects to a Firebase project and can receive the notifications sent by Cloud Connect. In Cloud Connect you configure the notifications with a certificate key you get from Firebase project.


Firebase is a set of hosting services for any type of application: Android, iOS, Javascript, Node.js, Unity, Java, PHP, C++. It offers to host in NoSQL and in real time databases, content, social (Google, Facebook, Twitter and Github) authentication, notifications or services, such as server communication in real time.

Get .json file from Firebase

  1. Go to your Firebase account, Settings tab.
  1. Click on the Add an application button.
  2. Type the Cloud Connect ID of your application and save.The new application will appear in the left menu and the .json file on the right.
  3. Click on the google-service.json button to download the .json file for your Android application.
  4. Upload it in Android AppFactory, Firebase tab.
