A glossary, also known as a vocabulary, is an alphabetical list of terms in a particular domain of knowledge with the definitions for those terms.

This is the list of terms used within Rakuten Aquafadas company.

Glossary

  • Application: in Cloud Connect, an application is a link between your iOS/Android application and the content management in Cloud Connect.
  • AppLight: the AppLight is a multi-titles store elements application. The content is displayed inside banners, entirely managed by Cloud Connect.
  • AppFactory: is a WYSIWYG tool to generate applications for publishing platforms like Apple, Google Play, etc.
  • Application Programming Interface (API): in computer programming, API is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications.
  • Android Application Package (APK): is the package file format used by the Android operating system for distribution and installation of application software.
  • Article: in Creative Flow, this is the smallest part of an Issue. An article contains images, text, videos, document navigation mode, all existent enrichments.
  • Autoingestion: Cloud Authoring retrieves content automatically from the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) for Conversion Flow or Creative Flow to transform the content into ePUB, HTML5 or .ZAVE formats.
  • Availability (start/end date): the starting/ending date for the ZAVE/AVE file to appear/disappear in/from the application.
  • Batch processing: a tool to automatically configure the content generation process: the FTP, the exported formats, the project schedule.
  • Category: is a way to organize and filter issues, manually or automatically using a Query.
  • Crop tool: an enrichment tool in Cloud Authoring to crop content, to redefine displayed content.
  • Cloud Authoring: content generation system to convert print layouts to Electronic Publication (ePub), ZAVE/AVE and Web Reader formats.
  • Cloud Connect: Content Management System (CMS) publisher for all the applications developed by Rakuten Aquafadas. URL link: Cloud Connect.
  • Content Management System (CMS): CMS is a computer application that allows publishing, editing and modifying content, organizing, deleting, as well as maintenance from a central interface.
  • Conversion Flow: a tool to convert documents, PDF and images type to ZAVE/ePubWeb reader formats.
  • Creative Flow: platform as a service (PaaS) authoring tool to create and generate content usable in Aquafadas store: XML files are transformed into content.
  • Dashboard: in Cloud Connect the dashboard contains all reports on the end-users’ downloads, actions, purchases, general information of a Title.
  • Data Base Connection (DBC): DBC is a generic application, but adaptable through a specific development according to customer’s needs and specifications, connecting the external users of a customer’s database and the Aquafadas server.
  • Electronic Publication (ePub): ePub is an e-book file format with the extension .epub which can be downloaded and read on devices like smartphones, tablets, computers, or e-readers.
  • Enrichments
  • Smart reading: a pre-defined reading path through a magazine.
  • Smart zooming: an enjoyable way of reading a part of the content.
  • Single/Multi pictures: images inside the content, with a callout, displayed in a slideshow, when there are more than two images.
  • Featured items: in Cloud Connect this is a customizable element to display and promote content in a Store Model: videos, issues, banners.
  • File Transfer Protocol (FTP): FTP is a standard network protocol used to transfer computer files from one host to another host over a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)-based network, such as the Internet.
  • Graphical User Interface (GUI): GUI is a type of interface that allows users to interact with electronic devices through graphical icons and visual indicators such as secondary notation, as opposed to text-based interfaces, typed command labels or text navigation.
  • Help Desk: support for clients, accessible through Training and Support page.
  • Issue: single published content, part of a Title.
  • Key: in Cloud Connect, an element from the Query to filter the content in a Category.
  • Metadata: is “data about data”. The main purpose of metadata is to facilitate the discovery of relevant information, more often classified as resource discovery. Metadata also helps organize electronic resources, provide digital identification, and helps support archiving and preservation of the resource.
  • Single Document: an application containing a single Issue.
  • Order tool: an enrichment tool in Cloud Authoring to display the order of pages and generate the Table of contents.
  • Product: in Cloud Connect, the product is the identifier of your subscription or issue, declared on Apple/Google/Amazon stores. It is the link between Cloud Connect, stores and application for the price of a paid content.
  • Production scheduling: the action to prepare your publishing: entry date, end date, titles, Metadata.
  • Push notification: sent to a targeted device (iOS, Android) to advertise content, new publications, new features.
  • Query: an automatic filter to populate a Category, using Keys and values.
  • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP): is an Internet standard for electronic mail (email) transmission.
  • Small Publisher Framework (SPF): is a Data Base Connection (DBC) model.
  • Store Model: a store model is the way to organize and present Issues/Titles/Categories/Featured Items in the generated store in AppFactory.
  • Software Development Kit (SDK): is a set of software development tools that allows the creation of applications for a certain software package, software framework, hardware platform, computer system, video game console, operating system, or similar development platform.
  • Table of Contents (ToC): in Cloud Authoring, the ToC is generated via an Excel file uploaded in the detailed view of the Issue.
  • Template: in Creative Flow, this is the format to configure the content. The template is created in InDesign and uploaded via the Aquafadas InDesign plugin in Creative Flow.
  • Testing device: this is a feature to place certain devices in a test configuration: issues to be published, categories not yet released for the public.
  • Title: a collection of issues containing the parameters about the Issues: metadata, publication type, etc.
  • Web Reader: is a reader for web books directly from your Internet browser.
  • Web Services: web features to access basic features like generation launch in Cloud Authoring, information on your publication in Cloud Connect: available, visible, accessible Metadata.
  • WYSIWYG: is an acronym for “What You See Is What You Get”. In computing, a WYSIWYG editor is a system in which the content (text and graphics) on screen, during editing, appears in a form closely corresponding to its appearance when displayed as a finished product, which might be a printed document, web page, or slide presentation.
  • ZAVE/AVE: this is the exportation format developed by Aquafadas.
  • ZAVEM: manifest file containing several parameters for the ZAVE file: resolution, width, length, format, file size, etc. In software packaging, it is common to list the contents in a manifest file.
